Course Description:
Department of Pharmacy at Kathmandu University was established in 1994, first of its kind in Nepal, in response to acute shortage of graduate pharmacists in the national health care systems in the country with a mission to cater and supply steady stream of highly competent pharmacy graduates required for the country and to contribute knowledge in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. In order to achieve the mission the programs and activities of the Department of Pharmacy are designed to achieve the following objectives:
- Provide educational facilities to students for careers in pharmacy profession.
- Study and strengthen the existing pharmacy practices in the private and public sector organizations through continuing education and training programs.
- Assist pharmaceutical and related organizations in solving their problems by providing consultancy services.
Contribute to pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences literature relevant to Nepal through research and publications.
Subsequently Department of Pharmacy also commenced its postgraduate education in Pharmacy (MPharm) in two specializations, Pharmaceutical Care and Industrial Pharmacy in 2000 to cater more specialized human resource in the field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences in Nepal . From 2004, it started Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). At present this is the only department that has post graduation and PhD education in Pharmacy in Nepal.

Admission info
To be eligible for applying to the program, one must meet the following criteria:
- Must have passed 12 years (10+2) of formal education.
- Must have passed Higher Secondary Level Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) OR Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) with an average grade of 50%.
- Must appear in the entrance examination and selection interview.
The entrance examination and interview is highly competitive and the successful candidates in both are eligible to get admission.
Admission Procedure
Notification for admission to all undergraduate programs offered by the school under the pharmacy department is published in major dailies and is in the website: www.ku.edu.np/pharmacy in the month of June/July seeking applications from eligible candidates.Collection of applications is followed by an entrance examination designed to test applicants' command over mathematics, physics,Chemistry and biology. Candidates qualifying in the entrance examination are called for an interview. The interview is aimed at testing individual's aptitude in the field in which one is seeking admission and is taken by the relevant department.

- Attested copy of Mark sheets of Secondary and Higher Secondary education.
- Official document showing the average grades in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics OR Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

- Final year students are required to undergo 6 weeks in-plant training in the pharmaceutical industry as arranged by the department
