Course Description:
Decoding of the human genetic map is being acknowledged as the greatest technological feet of the 21st century. The scientist working mainly in the area of Bio-Technology and its related fields made this scientific feeat attainable. The new century will certainly be hailed in the annals of history as its the age of Biotech. The deciphering of the human genome sequence signals the commencement of an exciting chapter in Bio-Technology.
Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary science, which encompasses the study of biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and engineering. It is a fast growing field that finds application in every aspect of industrial and daily life from chemical, pharmaceutical and textile industries to genetics and agriculture. Its related fields are Biochemistry, Microbiology and Genetic Engineering.
Biotechnology applies an assortment of techniques to living cells to produce a particular product of improved quality. It is an integrated approach that requires knowledge of the different branches of science. It can be an exciting and intriguing field for those with a scientific mind and can find unexpected possibilities in this field.
Biotechnology is a research-oriented science, which includes the fields like medicine, pharmacology, agriculture and the environment. It has multifaceted applications in most of the industries like chemical, pharmaceutical, textiles, genetics and agriculture. Some of the important products are – bio-processed food items, pharmaceuticals, tissue culture and chemicals as well as the execution of pollution controlled measures, developmental studies in regions like waste management.
Why Bio Technology
Biotechnology is a multi-disciplinary subject designed to teach various branches of biological sciences applicable in industries commercially. The course structure of B.Sc.BT program is based on the guidelines of Industry and Academic requirements which considers the most updated and relevant curriculum and is broad enough to provide learning in most of the aspects of biotechnology.
Biotechnology is one of the most rapidly expanding areas of research within the life sciences, much akin to the silicon chip technology in the physical sciences. Many of the most exciting research developments of the last decade come from basic biotechnology principles. Examples include the use of enzymes in the synthesis of new drugs, recombinant DNA technology in identifying the basis of genetic disease, gene therapy and the development of computational tools for manipulating genome sequences.
