Course Description:
The Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Management Program Regulations (hereinafter called the PhD in Management Regulations) has been prepared by the School of Management (hereinafter School) with approval from the Research Committee in accordance with the provision of Clause 23 (2) of Kathmandu University Research Related Rules 2062 (amendment in 2068 and 2074) (hereinafter called the Rules). The PhD in Management Program of the School (hereinafter called the PhD Program) shall be regulated according to the following rules. Detailed information on rules will be provided during orientation.
Objectives of the Program
PhD in Management is an advanced research degree program that offers substantial foundation to the PhD candidates (hereinafter called the candidates) in advanced theory, research and analytical skills to help them pursue advanced study in management and conduct high quality research independently in their fields. Candidates pursuing this program will acquire advanced knowledge in conceptual and analytical skills and therefore will have enriched research capability for advancing management knowledge, practice and profession.

Enrolment and Registration
a. Enrolment for the PhD Program shall be on biannual basis either for the Fall semester (August) or the Spring semester (February).
b. The selected candidates will be registered in the PhD Program as full time research students after fulfilling all other registration requirements of the University.
c. Registration of candidates initially will be temporary. Only after successful completion of study and defense of the thesis proposal by a candidate, he/ she will be permanently registered by the Research Committee on the recommendation of the main advisor.
d. Admitted candidate may be asked to study courses offered in MPhil in Management Program if the Research Committee finds that the candidate’s knowledge in research and management related courses is not sufficient. Candidates admitted with two masters’ degrees are required to do research related courses from MPhil program as per the recommendation of the Research Committee.
Syllabus
Course works to be completed in the first year of PhD study are:
1st Semester:
Advanced qualitative research methods (2 credit);
Advanced quantitative research methods (2 credit);
Academic writing (2 credit);
2nd Semester:
Advanced seminar in specialization area (2 credit).
Following three specialization areas are available in PhD program:
1. Finance
2. General Management
3. Marketing.
Advanced seminar in the specialization area comprises 4 well researched literature review based seminar presentations pertaining to areas of research inquiry of the candidate. The seminar is designed to help a candidate in developing a solid research proposal at later stage. The four topics of advanced seminar are to be decided by the principal advisor and presented to the faculty and PhD scholars.
