Air Hostess, Flight Attendant, or Flight Steward are personnel of an aircrew who are responsible for the safety and comfort of passengers during flights. Every airline strives to provide its passengers with a comprehensive in-flight service. In-flight service is a critical component of an airline's overall operation system. And in-flight service is the job of the Cabin Crew, often known as Air Hostess or Flight Attendant. On this basis, it would not be an exaggeration to state that Air Hostess are the brand ambassadors of an airline in many aspects.

An air hostess or flight attendant is responsible for a variety of tasks. The first and primary requirement is that they make passengers feel at ease so that they have a pleasant voyage. An Air Hostess' tasks include greeting passengers, ensuring that they are properly seated, answering their needs, offering special care and attention to children, the elderly, and the disabled, and making regulatory announcements. In addition, the flight attendant's responsibilities are related to safety. Flight attendants are required to attend a safety briefing with the pilots and purser prior to each flight. During this briefing, they go through safety and emergency checklists, the locations and quantities of emergency equipment, and other aircraft-specific characteristics.

Many young females choose this profession because of the exhilarating experience of traveling, visiting other areas, mingling with various types of people on board, and the excellent salary package. Air Hostess jobs are for people who enjoy working with people and, more importantly, who enjoy flying. Though this career provides a thrilling experience as well as a great compensation, it is not as simple as it appears. This is a very tough profession that demands a lot of patience and involves strange duty hours. The responsibility of an air hostess involves more than just serving food and drinks. They are responsible for handling passengers during emergencies, counseling travelers, and providing first aid services.
And for those who can take the demanding and unpredictable lifestyle, nothing beats flying through the air as an Air hostess.

Air Hostess Training is essential for people who want to work as an air hostess. Many young Nepali girls aspire of becoming air hostesses, but in order to do so, they must complete a rigorous Air hostess training program. Air Hostesses must go through the training sessions of the individual airlines after completing their main training from the institutes.

Many Nepalese airlines have an established structure in place for both selecting and training sessions. Selected candidates must complete a 2-3 week training program that encompasses both hospitality and safety-related services. They must take exams after completing their training program, and only those who pass are sent to service.  Others will be on stand by.

Air Hostesses work in shifts that include working unusual hours, working weekends and holidays, and spending time away from home. They spend long hours in a pressurized cabin and must adjust to changing weather and time zones.

Eligibility for an airhostess-training Programme is plus two (+2). For a person with a diploma degree in Aviation / Hotel Management or Tourism Management can also pursue graduation degree in Aviation. But more important, the applicant should be physically fit with a pleasing personality and good communication skills. Eligibility for Air hostess job is based on a written test, group discussion and personal interview with a panel of aviation experts. The aspirant must be eligible to hold a Nepali Passport (for applying to International airlines) with a minimum height of 157.5 centimeters. Minimum arm reach of 212cms (on tip toes), which enables you to reach emergency equipment on all aircraft types The weight should be in proportion to height. Further, one must be unmarried, with normal eyesight of 6/6 uncorrected vision in each eye ( relaxable depending on the airline- for example Lufthansa airline also employs married ladies ). Fluency in English, Nepali, and knowledge of an international language is an added advantage.

Those who qualify in the written examination have to appear for a group discussion followed by a personal interview of successful candidates. If selected you will be on training for 2 to 3 weeks in which time you learn about service, grooming, safety and first aid, after which you are initially put on trainee flights.

An Air Hostess has a good probability of being promoted to Senior Flight Attendant and finally Head Attendant.
