Course Description:
The Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies (BDevS) program at Pokhara University's School of Development and Social Engineering (SDSE) is a four-year undergraduate program designed to produce graduates with a solid foundation in development theories and practices. The program includes courses in economics, sociology, anthropology, political science, management, and law. Introduction to Development Studies, Development Economics, Sociology of Development, Anthropology of Development, Gender and Development, Rural Development, Environmental Issues and Policies, and Research Methodology are among the major courses offered.
Through the teachings of theories and models, as well as practical approaches, the program provides methods and techniques for analyzing various societal problems. The program's goal is to prepare human resources for societal development. The program trains development and social experts to address national and sub-national social issues (communities, municipalities, and regions). It teaches economic growth, social and human development, and overall prosperity tools and techniques.
Objectives of the Programs
The Bachelor of arts in development studies (BDevS) program has been designed to
> Develop the academic skills and attitudes necessary to comprehend and evaluate the concepts of social and economic development
> Assist students to solve various problems in the society by means of practical approaches using models and innovative solutions.
> Develop the ability to review, consolidate, extend, and apply the knowledge and techniques to real situations; and
> Impart students the principles and practices, challenges, and opportunities of development for making the society prosperous and advance.
This program's major career areas include government departments such as local governance, governmental and non-governmental projects, and international departments and organizations such as INGOs, UN agencies, and bilateral agencies. Furthermore, there is a strong possibility of studying within or outside the country, as well as pursuing international internships in public health.
Career Opportunities
The BDEVS graduates are most competent for professional jobs in the government and research, officer level posts in various NGOs/INGOs and CBOs in Nepal as well as in the international arena. They are in high demand at UN Organizations, including UN Volunteers in the development and humanitarian fields. They can also work as development freelancers, consultants and researchers or run their own projects on social enterprises.
Program Features
1. Four–year Bachelor's degree program, a total of 129 credit hours courses spreading over eight semesters.
2. Focusing on theoretical and practical knowledge in development studies and research (Project Management, Development Program, Sustainable Development, Social Engineering, Development Economic, Development Policies, and Program, Research Methods for Development Studies, Project Works, 2-3 months Internship in renounced I/NGOs, Government offices, SPSS, etc. ) and elective/optional courses.
3. Realizing development through the lens of multi entities: State, Market, Civil Society/NGO, Human Right, Education, Population, Poverty, Gender issues.
4. Participatory teaching and learning pedagogy using tools and techniques- multimedia projector, computer lab, high-speed internet, etc.
5. Distinguished PU professors and esteemed practitioners in the development arena are attached to our BDEVS program.

Eligibility
Students, who have successfully completed +2/PCL or equivalent level in any discipline, can apply. NEB Students with a minimum D grade in each subject in SLC 2079 or D+ grade in each subject till 2078 are eligible.
Syllabus
The Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies (BDevS ) courses constitute 126 credit hours spreading over eight semesters. A total of 2268 hours are required to earn the BDevS degree of Pokhara University.
