Course Description:
Engineering geology is the application of geology to civil engineering and construction practices. The subject also includes aspects of engineering geomorphology, surface geology, disaster risk management, and geodisaster mitigation. Engineering geologists are found worldwide working on problems as varied as foundation design to the assessment of earthquake and landslide risks together with geological data analysis and urban planning. Engineering geologists have an important role in the evaluation of site conditions for surface and underground constructions. They are leaders of environmental management works and always play key role in the infrastructure development and planning. Moreover, engineering geology has prime role in geochemical and geophysical investigation as well as data analysis along with site evaluation and remediation. With increasing use of slopes in south and south east Asian regions, and expanding use of marginal land in the emerging economies, the role of the engineering geologists has never been as important as it is in the modern engineering era. The understanding of the plain areas as well as hill slopes and their response to static and dynamic loads is a vital work of engineering geologists for sustainable development of infrastructures and disaster risk reduction. Engineering Geologists are found worldwide working on a wide range of problems, from foundation and mine design to the assessment of seismic and landslide risk.
The M.Sc. Engineering Geology course is highly demanded course in Nepal and there is a enormous pressure from the students to enroll in the course.
