CTEVT mulling to establish technical, vocational education training fund
Bhaktapur: Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) is preparing for the establishment of Technical and Vocational Education Training Fund to manage foreign donations.
Jay Bahadur Tandon, CTEVT member secretary, today said the Fund was envisioned to make donation process transparent and to achieve coordination between various agencies that provide vocational training.
He stated that there was no mechanism to collect the foreign aid in a government account and use it for various programmes.
"Many donor agencies such as DFID, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, SDC and others are investing in technical education and vocational training these days," he said adding, "A Fund is must so that we can have transparency and coordination in activities."
Tandon informed that the Fund would be under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.
Prof Tirtha Khaniya, former member of National Planning Commission and member of TVET technical committee, said that they had already prepared the policy for the Fund but was yet to be approved by the government.
He said, "The government is not serious about this issue, so they are not bothered to endorse the policy."
He stated that the draft of the policy was tabled in the Cabinet some six months ago, but there was no progress.
"Establishment of a technical school is more important than a university today," he said.
