Importance of Open University discussed
Dhangadi: Educationists and stakeholders have expressed displeasure towards governments less priority for development of the proposed Open University in the country.
They said political instability was to blame for lack of policy formulation for implementation of the proposed-open university.
At a seminar organised here on Friday, the stakeholders said that non-operation of such university was disappointing though it was a very relevant concept of the time.
On the occasion, Chairman of the University Grants Commission Dr Ganesh Man Gurung said the Open University was an opportunity to the farmers, laborers and housewife, among others who are deprived of the formal university classes.
He said students' burden of the Tribhuvan University would be downsized if the proposed Open University were brought into practice.
Former Vice-chancellor of Pokhara University Prof Dr Keshar Jung Baral Magar presented a working paper at the programme stating that need of the Open University was realized to manage the burden of the TU and increase the people's access higher education.
Dean of the Far Western University Dr Tek Raj Panta commented on the working paper.
On the occasion, Vice-chancellor of the Far Western University Dr Jayraj Awasthi, Chief District Officer of Kailali Ram Prasad Thapaliya and others expressed their opinions on the importance of the Open University.
