Irregularities in HSEB exams
The National Vigilance Centre (NVC) has discovered serious irregularities on the part of the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) concerning the results of the Grade 12 examinations.
An investigation carried out by the anti-graft body under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office found that some students from the Science stream had their marks increased in English by 10 to 14 points while others had their score decreased by 8 to 12 points. The NVC probe committee also discovered 384 answer sheets without the names of the examiner or the higher secondary school they belonged to. The 200-page report by the investigation committee revealed that the HSEB had published the Grade 12 results even as an investigation into the suspicious answer sheets was on.
The NVC on Tuesday sought written clarification from the HSEB about the irregularities. “The Board has been asked to furnish written clarifications,” the NVC stated. This is not the first time the HSEB was found falsifying scores. A committee led by former Education Secretary Jayaram Giri in January found serious procedural errors in its exam system. The committee proved that HSEB staff had sent transcript, migration and provisional certificates of 123 students to their Nepalgunj office without verifying the documents.
