Students unlock HSEB
Bhaktapur: Agitating students affiliated to various political parties today opened the lock at the Office of the Vice-chairperson and member secretary at the Bhaktapur-based Higher Secondary Education Board.
The students had padlocked the offices indefinitely on July 31. They had been organising various protests demanding that the government pull down hoarding boards of plus two colleges, change their foreign names, and fix their fees.
As per the deal between students and officials from the Ministry of Education, the government has agreed to change the names of college into Nepali ones within three months, increase scholarship quota from five per cent to a two digit number, put a cap of Rs 1.5 lakh spent by Plus Two colleges in an academic year.
Lekhnath Pokharel, central committee member of Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Student Union said they opened the lock at HSEB and regional office after HSEB and Ministry of Education officials agreed to fulfil their demands within a few months.
Due to the strike, the Office of the Controller of Examination was not able to publish results for grade XII.
The students and MoE officials have agreed to form a taskforce within 15 days to decide on the percentage of scholarship for plus two students.
