Teachers Service Commission, the government body that appoints school teachers for public schools, is preparing to announce the results of examination held for 611 vacant posts of secondary-level permanent teachers.

A total of 40,157 applicants had applied for 611 vacant posts of secondary level teachers of 14 different subjects. The written examination were held on June 18 in 208 exam centres in ten districts.

A total of 11,343 applicants had applied for Nepali; 10,304 for Social Studies; 9,185 for English; 2,536 for Science; 4,110 for Mathematics; 1,102 for Accounts; 1,065 for Health, Population and Environment; 325 for Economics, 95 for Education; 45 for Computer Science; 21 for Sanskrit Literature; 19 for Sanskrit; five for Veda; and four for Agriculture.

The permanent posts were lying vacant since April 24, 2006.

Sudarshan Marahattha, spokesperson, TSC, said of the total applicants, only 1,050 examinees were shortlisted for interviews, which were held between October 17 and 28.

He said, “Only five of the shortlisted candidates were absent during the interview. However, if they appeared in the TSC office within 10 days of the interview date with valid reasons, we will reschedule their interview. Otherwise, we will start publishing the final results.”

He informed that the results will be announced according to respective subjects and regions gradually.

He further said that the office was waiting for amendment to the Teachers Service Commission Regulations to revise their curriculum for teachers’ exam.

The eighth amendment to the Education Act envisages separate exams for temporary teachers but due to a lack of amendment to the Education Regulations, TSC has till date not been able to do so.

Similarly, the Department of Education is collecting data on temporary teachers and whether they want to sit for the written test or opt for golden handshake.
