Bangladesh - Popular choice for Medical Studies
There are 34 public universities,56 private universities, 2 international universities, 31 specilized colleges, and 2 special universities in Bangladesh. With the availability of these universities, the demand of international students for higher education has increased dramatically in recent years. Most importantly, students prefer Bangladesh to study MBBS and also other courses like LLB,LLM,MBA, Msc Accounting, MSc in Computer Systems and so on.
Kunja Rajbhandari, Counselor for Bangladesh Education at Criss Cross Institute, Kathmandu says that many students would prefer to study in Nepal, but due to many reasons, it is not possible for all.So, those who do not get seats in good colleges in Nepal for MBBS think of Banladesh as a good option for the reason that it is cheaper than India or abroad.
According to Bhandari, the degree earned by students in Bangladesh is respected and recognized all over the world and the fees are affordable.Bangladesh's close proximity as a neighboring country is an advantage. The students we send are in good company because their batch mates and seniors are all first class achievers in addition to being self disciplined and extremely studious. The professors in each department have optimum knowledge of their subject and demand a high level of performance from each student. The amount of money that parents spend on their child's study in Bangladesh is money well spent. Higher studies in Bangladesh are certainly worthwhile for parents, students, our country as well as the host country.
He share that there are some performace-based scholarships awarded by certain colleges but the criterion for getting scholarship is extremely high. Three of our MBBS students have been awarded scholarships in Bangladesh. Concerning the cost it ranges from $15,000 for Dental Studies to $33,000 for a six year MBBS course, he says.
He let us know that the legibility for admission into medical courses is based on academic records. A GPA os 8 based on SLC as well as +2 results is the minimum criteria, accepted by the colleges in Bangladesh as well as the Nepal Medical Council.
To the students seeking study in Bangladesh he admises to do a good research about what to study and how to apply. He advises to select a college with good repute even if it is slightly more expensive. Education is an investment which can give good returns. It's necessary to investigate the college, its credentials, its record in the past, its affiliations, the qualifications of its staff and its infrastructure. There are many educational institutes that come to Nepal to recruit students and work through agencies that just our there to make money off.Be aware of dubious colleges and agents. Also, do not go to a college just because a friend is there. You are going to study not to form friendships and have a good time. It's easy to get distracted and lose sight of one's goal."Stay focused and once you have finished your course of study, come back to your country and do well,"suggests Bhandari.
