MBA is a degree highly sought after by entrepreneurial students looking to gain an edge in the business world in a variety of different markets and corporations. The MBA program is designed to develop a person’s skills in many areas of business, providing them with an extremely broad knowledge as well as acute abilities. As business operations may have myriad aspects attached to it, students in a MBA program are exposed to a variety of subjects like economics, organizational behavior, marketing, accounting,finance, strategy, operations management, advertising, international business, information technology management, supply chain management, project management, government policy and ethics. Elective courses offer a person the opportunity to develop specialized skills, such as a concentration in the banking and Insurance industry.

Most management schools look for two primary qualities in an aspirant, the ability to process vast amount of data and draw out inference to be used in day to day decision making and the ability to implement the decisions in a seamless way. While the first trait is determined by theindividual’s IQ, the second trait is the leadership quality in an individual.

The MBA entrance exams are designed so as to test ability ofthe individual to process vast data in a small time. The subjects in which most of these exams focus on are: Verbal Ability; Reading Comprehension; Problem Solving; Data Interpretation; Logical Reasoning; Data Sufficiency; Maths Problem. Having a good well rounded score in all this section help assuring academic success in the first year of a MBA study.

In Nepal, the universities that provide management education in the Master levels are Kathmandu University, Tribhuwan University, Purbanchal University and Pokhara University. The entrance examinations and admission procedure for a postgraduate course in management in all theses universities except Tribuvan University is similar to a large extent.

Tribhuvan University
Admissions are open at Tribhuwan University in the month of August ¬September every year. A student seeking admission for management studies has to pass an entrance examination. Master of Business Studies (MBS) is the different management course provided by the university at postgraduate level.

Recently, Tribhuvan University has re-launched its MBA programs.Currently, TU School of Management (TUSOM) is offering full time MBA program.The applicant to the MBA program must meet the following minimum requirements to be eligible to apply for the MBA program:A minimum of 15 years’ formal education (12 years of schooling plus three years of graduation) and must have secured a minimum CGPA of 2.0 or 45 percent in Bachelor’s level. The final decision on admission is taken on the basis of performance scores of an applicant in the admission tests.

TU SOM shall conduct a four stage admission tests for appropriate screening of MBA applicants. The applicants shall be screened in each of the stages.
> Written test: This test will be based on the GMAT format. The duration of the test will be 2 hours.
> Group discussion: Groups discuss on a given topic. Performance of applicants is recorded by a panel of judges based on leadership, logic, and conclusions.
> Individual presentation: Applicants present their views and opinions on a given topic to the panel of judges.
> Personal interview: Personal interview to measure applicants motivation level, attitude and capability to handle the pressure and rigors of the MBA program.

Kathmandu University
Admission to the MBA programme at KUSOM is open to Nepali and non-Nepali nationals with a Bachelor's degree of at least three years duration in any discipline. A minimum of 50 percent marks in aggregate or 2.5 CCPA (from universities approved by Kathmandu University) is also essential. Formal admission process takes place in December-January for the spring term and in August-September for the fall term. Upon submission of the completed application form with two letters of recommendations, transcripts of previous degrees, and the payment of admission test, the admission committee administers the admission process.

Selection of the candidates is based on:
•    Scores on the KUSOM management admission test (verbal and quantitative reasoning, data interpretation, and proficiency in English language)
•    Written English test, group discussion,
•    Personal interview; and merit of academic attainments up to the undergraduate level.

Pokhara University
The general admission time at the colleges affiliated to Pokhara University is July-August every year. The university offers two types of management courses i.e. MBA and EMBA in the postgraduate level. During the time of admission, a notice inviting admission is publicly announced. The application forms and information brochures is available at the university office and it's affiliated colleges on payment of an assigned fee.The concerned college scrutinises the applications and invites eligible candidates to take the entrance test. The date and time for the entrance test is informed to prospective students by the college. The college may also interview candidates for final selection.

Purbanchal University
Colleges affiliated to Purbanchal University offer two types of courses at the postgraduate level, namely Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA). For admission into these courses, the university brings out a notice inviting admissions publicly. Students who have scored minimum 40 percent marks in the graduate level are eligible to apply and pass an entrance test conducted by the university.
