Course Description:
This course has been launched by Kathmandu forestry College (KAFCOL) on July 2012 in affiliation with the Salzburg University Austria (Europe) within the UNIGIS network (Europe). This programme has been authorized by the Ministry of Education, Government of Nepal. Individuals aiming at a career in GI or professionals already active in this field who are interested in continuing education for perusing an academic qualification while working will find this program quite attractive.

Bachelor in any discipline with at least 45% aggregate marks are eligible to appear entrance exam administered by the KAFCOL under Salzburg University, Austria.
Syllabus
Major Subject Areas
This course is based on the UNIGIS netork and has at least 120 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). This course contains 9 compulsory modules (GIS Introduction, Data modeling, Open GIS and Distributed GI infrastructures, Geographical analysis, Spatial analysis, and visualization and Cartography) of 54 credit hours, 12 credit hours learning practices and academic work, 24 credit hours electives and 30 credit hours Master’s thesis.
With the acquired know-how from this program, graduates are expected to master challenge in business, industry of government in any of the following fields.
> Environmental analysis and management (e.g. climatic factors, forests, water bodies, soil erosion, bio-diversity, conservation areas, coastal areas, mountainous areas etc.)
> Natural resources and economic planning (e.g. agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, fisheries mining, landscape analysis, tourism, industry etc.)
> Infrastructure development and management (e.g. transport networks, water and sanitary, health facilities, education institutions etc)
> Security and safety (e.g. crime & danger assessment, risk and vulnerability assessment, emergency response, disaster management, disease and epidermis pattern, public safety measures etc.)
> Government and politics (e.g. public administration, electoral analysis, voting patterns etc.)
> Urban rural and regional planning (e.g. integrated approach to land use planning and management at various spatial units etc.)
