3,000 temporary teachers to boycott SLC exams
Birgunj:As many as 13,000 temporary schoolteachers across the country have decided to boycott the upcoming School Level Certificate (SLC) examinations.
A meeting of the central working committee of Temporary Teachers Committee (TTSC) in Birgunj on Friday took a decision to boycott the examinations, informed Ashutosh Giri, general secretary of TTSC.
Stating that the vacancy notice issued by Teachers Service Commission was against the law as the case in this regard is sub-judice at the Supreme Court (SC), TTSC had filed another writ petition at the SC on January 12. The notice issued by the commission prohibited temporary teachers from participating in the exams for permanent appointment in government schools.
“Our case is sub-judice at the Supreme Court. In order to ensure the rights of temporary teachers, we have decided to continue our protests against the government,” Giri told Republica after the meeting. TTSC President Dhurendra Chaurasiya has decided to boycott the SLC examinations and final examinations of all levels.
He also said TTSC will soon circulate the decision to teachers across the country.
There are altogether 28,000 temporary schoolteachers across the country and they are divided into two factions Temporary Teachers´ Protest Central Committee (TTPCS) and TTSC. Both the factions held a meeting in the capital on Saturday to plan their protests.
“Our fight is with the government. We are fighting to ensure our rights,” said Nirendra Kunwar, president of the Temporary Teachers´ Protest Central Committee.
TTSC has requested TTPCS to support them in their protest against the government and boycott the upcoming SLC examinations, informed Giri.
