CTEVT to bring criteria for fresh affiliations
Bhaktapur: The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training today said it will prepare criteria for affiliation to new academic institutions for diploma level studies.
Speaking at a press meet here today, newly appointed CTEVT Member Secretary Ram Hari Lamichhane said the move was being made in the wake of complaints about lack of transparency in affiliation process. Lamichhane said the affiliation process would be made easier and transparent from now on.
“We have got hundreds of proposals from the concerned stakeholders regarding affiliation, but we are not going to grant it arbitrarily this year,” he said. According to Lamichhane, CTEVT is going to find out the need of institutes in a particular district and grant affiliation on the basis of their need.
“Within two months, we will have data on the need of academic institutions in the districts and affiliation criteria would also be prepared,” he said, adding, “After the preparations, we will review the proposals for selection.”
CTEVT had called on interested candidates to submit their proposals from mid-August to mid-September last year during which it had received hundreds of proposals for 2,628 programmes. As many as 1,023 proposals were in health sciences — 165 for nursing, 117 for health assistant, 279 for pharmacy, 195 for lab assistant, 97 for radiography, nine for Ayurveda, 74 for ophthalmic, 86 for physiotherapy and one for acupuncture.
Likewise, CTEVT received 1,119 proposals for engineering and other programmes such as agriculture, forestry and office management. For Technical School Leaving Certificate programme affiliation, a total of 656 proposals were registered at CTEVT, but only 420 institutes have paid money for affiliation. Lamichhane further said the affiliation process would be done online so that the concerned stakeholder could check it online from anywhere. Currently, there are 17 constituent institutes, 290 affiliated institutes, four institutes under public-private partnership model and 73 technical education institutes in community school programmes. Likewise, out of 11 polytechnic institutes proposed, seven institutes are under construction.
