House panel chair against fee hike by pvt schools
Chairperson of Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare Committee of the Legislature-Parliament, Ranju Kumari Jha, today expressed concern about arbitrary fee hike by private schools.
Addressing a programme organised here by National Campaign for Education-Nepal, Jha said private schools hiked tuition fees every year as the education ministry had failed to implement the ‘criteria for fee increment’ effectively.
“The government has set criteria for hiking tuition fees, but private schools are flouting the criteria,” she said, adding that the ministry should regularly monitor fee structures of private schools. Jha also urged teachers not to politicise the education sector.
Nepali Congress leader Bhimsendas Pradhan stressed on making schools ‘politics free’ zone to improve the quality of education.
CPN-Maoist Centre secretariat member Amrita Thapa, Rastriya Prajatantra Party leader Rajaram Shrestha, Federal Socialist Forum Kathmandu secretary Meera Maharjan also underscored the need to keep schools free from politics.
