HSEB, CTEVT finalise criteria for enrolment
The Higher Secondary Education Board and Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training have finalised criteria for enrolment of students in their respective institutions. This has cleared the confusion regarding enrolment of School Leaving Certificate graduates passing with low grades in Grade XI.
An HSEB meeting held yesterday decided to allow students scoring minimum GPA of 1.6 in SLC to enrol in Grade XI. However, the choice of subjects would depend on grades scored in SLC.
For instance, students aspiring to study physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science and agriculture must have a GPA of 2 or higher, but at the same time must also have C+ in science and mathematics, C in English and D+ in social studies and Nepali.
Similarly, students aspiring to study vocational subjects such as animal science, plant science, electrical engineering, civil engineering and computer engineering should have a minimum GPA of 1.6 with C in science, mathematics and English and D+ in Social and Nepali.
Likewise, students with minimum GPA of 1.6 with D+ in English can study various languages such as Maithali, Hindi, Newari, French, Japanese, Urdu, German, Chinese and other languages and dance, music, sculpture, painting, applied arts, sports and others.
Chaitanya Sharma, vice chairperson, HSEB, said they had adopted single subject certification system, which meant students should meet the minimum grade requirements in main subjects to study in Grade XI.
Ramhari Lamichhane, member secretary, CTEVT, said, “Our main objective is to mainstream students even with low grades.”
CTEVT offers 15 to 18 months Technical School Leaving Certification courses on 48 subjects such as health, engineering, agriculture, entrepreneurship and social mobilisation, while it offers three-year diploma courses in 33 subjects such as health, engineering, agriculture, forestry, tourism and others.
Minimum GPA to study diploma of pharmacy, dental science and others in CTEVT is 2 with C in English, mathematics and science.
Similarly, SLC graduates must have at least C in English, mathematics and science and D in other subjects to study diploma in various subjects such as engineering, agriculture, forestry, tourism and others.
