KMC ordered private schools to pay teachers on par with community schools
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has ordered that all private schools operating within the city pay their teachers and other staff in accordance with the government's salary range.
After receiving several complaints about the issue, Mayor Balendra Shah took to his Facebook page on Thursday to draw attention to the private schools.
"We have received numerous complaints that teachers in private institutions are paid less than those in public schools," Shah wrote on social media. "However, section 12(7)(g) of the Education Act,1971 states that teachers in private schools must be paid, without any pretext, as set by the government."
Shah urged teachers and other staff to contact the city's education department if they are denied salary and other benefits under the aforementioned laws.
