Nepal halts issuing NOC for non-university study abroad
April 12: The Nepalese government has ceased granting permission for studying abroad in programs other than those offered by universities.
According to the Ministry of Education, students who wish to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for studying abroad can only do so if they are admitted to a bachelor's level or higher university program. This implies that students are ineligible for student visas if they plan to pursue non-university educational programs such as language courses.
As per the country's education law, education up to grade 12 is considered school education. Consequently, the government has decided to permit students to go abroad solely for higher education.
Recently, there has been a surge in the number of students receiving approval to study abroad. According to the NOC Section at the Ministry, since mid-July 2022, a total of 81,573 individuals have received approval for studying abroad during the current fiscal year.
