Nine Nepali schools receive ISA
Nine schools were awarded with the International Schools Award (ISA) on Monday. The awards were given away by British Council Nepal at an event held at Hotel Yak & Yeti.
The schools receiving the award were Gyanodaya International Residential School in Lalitpur; Bhu Pu Sainik Trust English Higher Secondary Boarding School in Lamjung; Dol Bhanjyang Higher Secondary School in Dhading; Nagarjuna Kids World in Lalitpur; The Celebration Co-Ed in Kathmandu; Gladstone Academy in Bhaktapur; Baylor International Academy in Kavre; Shree Saraswati Model Higher Secondary School in Kailali, and Rampur Higher Secondary School in Doti.
The Ministry of Education authorizes and supports ISA which is in its second year.
The nine winning schools were chosen out of the 16 schools from 10 different districts that had applied for the award. The winners were picked based on the schools’ evaluations and school visits by representatives from the British Council, Department of Education and Curriculum Development Center.
The award was handed over by Dr Lava Deo Awasthi, General Secretary of Department of Education, and Andrew James Sparkes, British Ambassador to Nepal.
Acknowledging the efforts of the rest of the contending schools, British Council also awarded them with Foundation Certificate. The schools were Durga Bhawani Adarsha Community School in Kaski; Shining Stars Secondary Boarding School in Lalitpur; Chelsea International Academy in Kathmandu; New Environment Higher Secondary School in Rupandehi; Shree Janabikas Higher Secondary School in Lamjung; Social Public School in Kaski, and Panchodaya Higher Secondary School in Kailali.
The nine winning schools will be able to use the International School Award logo on all the official stationeries for a period of three years while the Foundation Certificate recipients are allowed to use it for a year.
According to the press release, British Council offers the ISA as an accreditation framework for schools to record and evaluate their international work and embed it into the curriculum. ISA acts as a benchmark that ascertains schools as having an outstanding level of support for nurturing global citizenship in young people and enriching teaching and learning.
