Schools collecting details of students to conduct stalled grade 12 exams
Sept. 14: The National Examination Board (NEB) is likely to conduct the examinations of grade 12 by arranging exam centres in the home towns for the students who have been to their villages before the enforcement of the nationwide lockdown on March 24.
The NEB has already asked the schools to submit information about the current location of their students.
It is said the NEB is planning to conduct the stalled examinations of the grade 12 students by managing examination centres near their current locations, as many students have been to their homes before March 24.
Chandra Mani Poudel, chairman of the NEB, said that it was not sure whether the NEB would conduct the examination that way. But the NEB has been collecting data of the students’ current location to analyse the possibility of conducting the examinations in the schools of the places where they have been staying.
According to Poudel, the NEB has proposed different models of examinations to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST) to conduct the examinations soon. “Therefore, only after getting approval of the suitable model from the Ministry, the NEB will declare the examination model and schedules,” he said.
“If the NEB gets approval of the proposed model of examination from the Ministry and receives the required data from respected schools from across the country, the examination could be conducted soon, even before the Dashain festival, Poudel said.
After the NEB directed the schools to send the current locations of their students, many schools have started collecting information about the whereabouts of their students by sending them messages. Bishalya Gautam, a 12th grader of Kathmandu Model College, Bagbazaar, on Sunday received a message with a request to send the detail about his current location.
“I got a message from the college (school) today asking me whether I will be able to reach the college to appear in the examination or I want a new centre,” he said. Gautam has been staying at his home in Kathmandu.
Earlier, the board had made public a schedule to conduct the examinations of grade 12 from April 20 which was postponed for indefinite period.
About 500,000 students of grade 12 have been waiting for the routine of their final examinations.
