Schools defy order, hold send-up exams
Flouting the government order, many private schools in Kathmandu Valley have started conducting send-up exams in an organised manner to filter the weak students from taking the upcoming School Leaving Certificate examination.
The Central Fee Fixation and Monitoring Committee, led by Director General of Department of Education Lava Deo Awasthi on December 22 last year, had directed all private schools to cancel the send-up exams after the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (Pabson) published the exam timetable for grade 10 students.
“Most of the schools have started the exam from Sunday,” said Suprabhat Bhandari, member of the Committee.“It’s a challenge to the government order and existing legal provisions.”
The Education Regulations (Sixth Amendment, 2011) bars schools from holding the send-up exams to select students for the SLC exam.
The private school owners, however, claimed that the exam was being conducted as preparations for the SLC.
