SEE, Grade XII exams postponed indefinitely
The government has decided to postpone the final examinations of Grade X, also known as Secondary Education Examinations, and Grade XII till further notice owing to rising cases of coronavirus in the country and the prohibitory orders issued in 63 districts across the country.
Grade X exams were scheduled to be held from May 27 and the board examination of Grade XII were scheduled from June 9.It is not known when the exams will be held.
A meeting of the National Examination Board held this morning has decided to this effect. “We would have managed to hold the examinations, if there was a partial lockdown. But, we are concerned about students who might miss the examinations due to prohibitory orders,” said the board’s Chairman Chandra Mani Paudel. He further said they had started researching different ways to hold the examinations if the coronavirus crisis continued for a long time in the country.
The board also formed a taskforce to prepare appropriate modalities to hold the examinations. The taskforce has been managed to suggest different measures to hold the exams in 15 days. Around 400,000 students of Grade X and around 450,000 students of Grade XII have been registered for the examinations this year.
These students, however, have been most affected by the pandemic and the months long lockdown issued by the government, which hindered their studies to a great extent.
This is the second year the government has decided to postpone these examinations.
Last year, the government had decided to postpone SEE just a day before the scheduled date.
The NEB had later decided to conduct examinations for only 40 per cent of the total weightage at home centres. Of the remaining 60 per cent marks, NEB had provided 40 per cent marks on the basis of marks obtained by students in the internal examinations.
And 20 per cent marks were awarded on the basis of overall evaluation of students.
