TU exam office gives NVC brush-off
The Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE) at the Tribhuvan University ( TU ) has shown reluctance to provide the data of students whose examination forms were received just a day before examinations.
The National Vigilance Centre (NVC), which has been investigating irregularities at the OCE, had asked it to provide the details of such students by December 24. However, the OCE has not complied with the request as of yet. A preliminary report by a three-member team, formed by the NVC under the Prime Minister’s Office, to investigate the discovery of 43 fake students from Tri-Chandra College revealed the involvement of high-level officials in granting permission to ‘fake’ students to sit for examinations.
According to Sher Bahadur Dhungana, coordinator of the probe panel, the OCE has been allowing in students in the last hours to avoid seat planning. All 43 students whose forms were received at the last hour were placed in a single room to “facilitate cheating”, the preliminary investigation revealed. “We have been asking the OCE to provide the five-year data of such students but there has been no progress,” said Dhungana.
The probe uncovered the involvement of Free Student Union, leaders of Nepal Student Union and All Nepal National Free Student Union, as well as OCE and Tri-Chandra College officials.
