TU prof faces music for question paper leak
The National Vigilance Centre today directed the Tribhuvan University to take departmental action against a faculty member who leaked question papers of a university exam.
This comes as the question paper of the Linguistics and Literature of MA first year exam held on September 9, was found to be a copy of questions set by Assistant Professor Sharad Chandra Thakur for an internal exam at the university’s Kirtipur-based Department of English.
“The secrecy of the question paper was violated, therefore necessary steps should be taken,” the National Vigilance Centre said in a letter to the university vice-chancellor.
TU legal adviser Narayan Khanal said it is a case of abuse of authority. He said the professor involved may be relieved of his job for the offence. The university’s regulations also state that a re-examination needs to be conducted if it is found that the secrecy of the questions were compromised.
NVC has recommended the Office of the Controller of the Examination, Central Department of English and Examination committee to be aware of the incident and take every measure not to repeat the same.
Following media reports that questions were leaked, the centre had formed a committee headed by section-officer Hum Nath Parajuli. The committee collected evidence from the Department of English, Office of the Controller of Examinations and interviewed officials involved.
