87 examinees, 9 invigilators expelled on first day of SLC exams
Eighty-seven examinees have been expelled for cheating on the first day of this year's SLC exams that began Thursday. Nine invigilators were also dismissed for helping students cheat in the exams.
Exam Controller Bishnu Bahadur Dware informed that 84 students and four invigilators from Saptari, two students from Sarlahi and a student from Doti were forced out of the exam hall on the day.Likewise, three imposters who were posing as superintendents were detained and a superintendent was expelled for helping students copy answers during the exam.
Dev Narayan Sah and Dev Narayan Yadav from Chandra Higher Secondary School and Ram Dev Shah from Sagarmatha Higher Secondary School were detained after their names were not found on the list of invigilators. Despite such incidents, the authority claimed that Thursday's exam was conducted smoothly.
Exam Controller Dware added that special teams led by joint secretaries have already reached five development regions for monitoring the exams.With cases of misconduct mostly reported from central Tarai districts, the government will observe the centers there more strictly.
Eastern Regional Bureau has reported that 2,000 students were absent on the first day of the board exam in the eastern and central districts.In Morang, tension ran high in exam center at Sikshya Niketan Madhyamik School when the superintendent Shiva Raj Bista himself arrived late. Bista claimed that the school management committee members had threatened him to quit the position and that the confrontation led to the delay.
The acid attack victims, Sangita Magar and Sima Basnet, took their exam from the hospital. Sangeeta, who is critically injured, took the help of the assistant writer whereas Sima wrote the answers herself.Both the girls are undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital since February 22. The Office of the Controller of Examination (OCE) made special arrangements following the Cabinet meeting held on Friday that directed the office to ensure proper arrangement for the two girls to take the exams.
Resuming her school education in mid fifties, 58-year-old Sushma Baidya, wife of CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya attempted the board exam from Manohar Higher Secondary School, Samakhusi in Kathmandu. Sushma herself is a women leader who joined her husband in the Maoist movement and went underground during the decade long Maoist's insurgency.
