Bank accounts of schools blocked
OKHALDHUNGA: District Education Office has begun to take action against 152 schools of Okhaldhunga after blocking their Rastriya Banijya Bank accounts on Tuesday.
The DEO had blocked the bank accounts of the schools saying that physical infrastructure had yet to be completed and there were financial irregularities in the schools.
The office has blocked the account of Prabudha Higher Secondary School, Chanyam, Gramodaya Higher Secondary, Gamnangtar, Phulamati High School ,Ghorakhori, among others. The financial transactions and other activities of the schools have been halted.
District Education Officer Lok Bahadur Lopchan said the physical infrastructure of the schools have not been completed yet though they had begun in 2009. They had to complete in 2013. He said the office has closed the accounts of the schools as there were financial irregularities in the names of the schools.
“Schools that did not audit transactions and did not use computers, faced action” he added. He said action was initiated against the schools after the government directed the office to make this year a year of ‘Achievement’ in teaching and learning.
The schools’ management committee and teachers are using political force to operate the bank account. There are 332 schools, including primary, lower secondary and secondary schools in the district.
