Call for new education policy
Chairman of the interim election government Khil Raj Regmi today emphasised the need to modernise national education policies.
Addressing a national discussion on higher education policy, Regmi said, “The development that we see, facilities and other things, which we are getting these days have only become possible due to research-based technical education. Therefore, we need to promote such education in our country as well.”
Stressing the need to promote creativity among students, he said the government also needs to promote an education system that addresses social needs. “There is a great importance of coordination between science and technology for development works as well as development of our social environment,” he said, adding, “Social environment can be improved with better education.”
In a different context, Regmi described holding Constituent Assembly elections as the top priority of the government. He urged academicians and education stakeholders to help the government conduct elections on the stipulated date.
Speaking at the programme, Mahendra Panday, a CPN-UML leader, said, “The present education system lacks quality as the government has been unable to bring timely changes in it.”
Agni Sapkota, spokesman for the UCPN-Maoist, said education will be meaningless if it cannot improve the quality of life. He said, “We should work to end multidimensional intervention in the country’s education system.”
