Call to provide access to education to physically-challenged
Stakeholders concerned have demanded to implement the verdict of the Supreme Court (SC) regarding the free education to the physically-challenged students.
Some eight years ago, the SC had given verdict in the name of government to make necessary arrangements for providing free education to the physically-challenged people.
Speaking at an interaction in the capital on Tuesday on "Supreme Court's Verdict Implementation", the speakers said that non-implementation of the verdict was the matter of national shame adding that providing free education to the physically-challenged students was the prime responsibility of State.
The SC had given a verdict to provide free education to the physically-challenged students in a case filed by founder chairman of Nepal Disabled Human Rights Center, Sudarshan Subedi, and activist Babu Kaji Maharjan.
On the occasion, General Secretary of Nepal Disabled Human Rights Center, Maheshwor Ghimire said that the State should be serious as 70 per cent of the physically-challenged children of the school-age were deprived of education.
Likewise, Secretary of Higher Secondary Schools' Association, Nepal, Ramesh Silwal said the nature and subject selection of the physically-challenged students should be carried out at the initial stage to provide an access to education to them.
At the programme, chairman of Education Journalists' Group Prakash Silwal and advocate Raju Prasad Chapagain, among others opined that the State should implement its policy and programmes to provide access to education to all students.
