Campus teachers shed clothes for salary
Rajbiraj: In a bizarre protest, part-time teachers of Mahendra Bindeshwari Multiple Campus in Rajbiraj on Sunday took off their clothes and handed them over to the campus demanding timely payment of their salaries. The part-time teachers have not been paid their salaries for the past five months.
With the Holi festival just round the corner, campus chief Chiranjibi Lal Dev had assured the teachers that they would be paid their salaries before the festival. “The teachers were forced to stage protest after the campus chief failed to keep his promise,” said Nilamber Karna, a part-time teacher at Mahendra Bindeshwari Multiple Campus.
“If the campus is really facing a financial crisis, we want the campus chief to sell our clothes and avoid the situation,” said Karna.
Likewise, Nandi Keshar Yadav, another part-time teacher, complained that the campus administration has only been providing assurances for the past several months.
The part-time teachers have been staging protests against the campus administration over the last few months.
Meanwhile, the part-time teachers also vandalized office of the campus chief.
Stating that the Tribhuvan University had stopped providing budget to pay the part-time teachers for the last two years, campus chief Dev said he had promised to pay the teachers through the development fund of the campus. He said he could not provide salary on Sunday following disagreement with officials in the accounts section.
“It was disgraceful of the teachers to stage such a protest. They should have kept patience,” said Dev.
