Career fair for graduating students : Ace Career Week 2014 at Ace Institute of Management

On Wednesday morning (yesterday), students inside a hall at Ace Institute of Management in Sinamangal were eagerly waiting for a presentation to be made by the representatives of merojob.com.
The students have been sitting for similar workshops at the college conducted by different organizations this week, as the college is seeing Ace Career Week 2014.
Swati Shah, 26, a final year MBA student of the college, shared, “I’m looking forward to the workshop. I’m sure it’ll be enlightening in terms of career options.” She added, “I attended the workshops of a couple of organizations at the fair earlier, which has broadened my horizon regarding my career choice. So I feel that the fair is a good platform for students to get exposed to the corporate world.”

Students have to provide their resumes to various organizations so there are high chances that they will be recruited in future as per their potentials, she observed.
Likewise, Sabin Kumar Thapa, another final year MBA student, shared, “Being part of the fair in the college’s environment felt very comfortable.”
He also sat for interviews with the representatives of a few organizations.
“During the interviews, I was questioned about the thesis I’m currently working on. I was also given a case related with marketing and I had to explain to them how I would tackle the case as a marketer,” he reminisced.
The fair began on Monday at the college’s premises and it’s seeing participation from final year students of MBA program and some students of BBA and BBA-BI.
Scheduled to conclude on Friday, the fair is bringing together students and representatives from corporate houses for interaction regarding job placements.
“We’ve been organizing career fairs for our graduating students for the last six years,” shared Ajay Shah, Program Coordinator for MBA Program of Ace Institute of Management in Sinamangal.
During the fairs, representatives from various organizations are invited to the college and they inform the students about their recruitment process and requirements, he informed.
Shah further shared, “First of all, the organizations’ representatives give presentations to students. If the students are interested in applying for jobs in the particular organization’s specific department, they are called for interviews.”
Since the students are from the management stream, they are usually interested in marketing, finance and Human Resource departments of the organizations, he added.
Rajan Koirala, Senior Executive in Communications of merojob.com, shared, “We’re also conducting workshops at the fair for students and we’re collecting feedbacks from them regarding what kinds of jobs they prefer. Likewise, another purpose of the workshop is to do a survey regarding what kind of skills students have that would be useful for corporate houses.” He added, “So basically, we’re here to bridge the gap between the students and organizations.”
Likewise, Philippe Belhay, the General Manager of Hotel Yak & Yeti shared, “I felt delighted to speak in front of the students representing the hotel. It’s good for students if they get a chance to listen to motivators who can inspire them to pursue a career.”
He further added that Nepal has much more potentials in the hospitality and tourism sector and candidates with management background are in high demand for the same. “As a manager I advised them saying that individuals committed to excellence, growth and success are preferred in the job market.”
“The main purpose of organizing such workshops is to make sure that our students get jobs as soon as they graduate,” shared Shah. He also added that they usually approach those organizations that have immediate vacancies so that students don’t need to wait for too long.
He opined, “We feel that this will also be of great help for organizations while recruiting potential candidates as we provide them with all the graduating students’ resumes that they can choose from.”
Companies like Business Advantage, Gorkha Brewery Pvt Ltd, Unilever Nepal, kumarijob.com, Index Furniture Nepal, Home Loan Experts Nepal, Hotel Yak & Yeti, and CMS Nepal, among others, have been conducting workshops for the fair.
