CIAA suspends PU VC, registrar
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Sunday suspended Purbanchal University’s Vice-chancellor Maheshwor Man Shrestha and Registrar Niroj Pandey on corruption charges.
The anti-graft body said the university officials were suspended from their positions so that the accused would be prevented from hiding and destroying evidences concerning their cases. An internal probe committee of the university had held both Shrestha and Pandey responsible for corruption.
According to CIAA spokesperson Shreedhar Sapkota, a special team deployed by the anti-graft body has already seized all documents related to the university’s financial transactions of the past two years.
The anti-graft body raided the university as per a complaint lodged by professor association and the political parties.
Subsequently, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, who is also the chancellor of the university, was informed about the suspension. The CIAA has also asked the Office of the Prime Minister to produce VC Shrestha and Registrar Pandey before the anti-graft body for an interrogation into the matter.
Similarly, the university administration has been directed to produce the university’s Exam Controller Mohan Bahadur Basnet and Account chief Laxman Gelal before the CIAA without further delay. Meanwhile, Sajha Publication General Manager Mamata Jha has also been suspended from the post on charge of irregularities.
