College bus set ablaze in City
In yet another attack on college facilities, students from the ruling Unified CPN-Maoist aligned All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) took a bus belonging to Battisputali-based Golden Gate College under control and set it on fire at Sano Bharyang today.
The bus (Ba 1 Ka 9117) was en route to Balaju from college to pick up students when it was intercepted and set ablaze at around 5.15 am.
No one was hurt in the incident. The mob had told the driver and students to evacuate the bus before the arson.
ANNISU-R Chairman Himal Sharma warned of more attacks on colleges if the administrations concerned continued to obstruct the students’ move to form their organisation there.
He claimed that Golden Gate College had taken action against some students for forming the college unit of ANNISUR-R a few days ago.
Police are yet to arrest any suspects.
College Director Purendra Lakhe resisted ANNISU-R’s drive and said formation of any student organisation affiliated to political parties was not acceptable in the ‘temple of learning’.
On Monday, teachers of DAV Sushil Kedia Bishwo Bharati Higher Secondary School and CPN-Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary had vandalised two school buses.
Higher Secondary Schools’ Association Nepal (HISSAN) has expressed concern about increasing incidents of vandalism and arson targeting college buses.
