Committee formed to probe SLC double registration
The Office of the Controller of Examinations has formed a three-member panel under its regional director Jivan Sharma Paudel to probe reports that around 2,500 students, due to sit for the School Leaving Certificate Exams, have registered with more than one schools, giving it 10 days to prepare a report with the names of students at fault and suggestions to control such an illegal practice.
The revelation comes at a time when the OCE has ‘completed preparations’ for the SLC exams, scheduled to start on March 20 in 1,748 centres across the country and 5,28,257 examinees appearing.
“The illegal practice came to light while collating data of students from across the country,” exam controller Dilli Ram Rimal said, expressing hope that the committee will do its job before March 20, when the exams begin. Most of the 2,500-odd students are from private schools, education authorities said, adding they have resorted to the illegal practice believing that passing SLC exams from public schools will give them a better shot at higher education.
Private schools also make SLC students, whom they expect to perform poorly in the exams, register for exams with public schools so they can boast of excellent performance. OCE issued a public notice urging students at fault to contact it if they want to avoid action and sit for the exams. Rimal warned that the students at fault may face action if they do not heed the notice.
