Community schools lag behind in SLC
Once again, community and public schools across the country have lagged behind in performance in the School Leaving Certificate results published on Tuesday.
Every year, the private and boarding schools have been making improvements and their students come out with flying colors. By contrast, the SLC results for community and public schools are pathetic.
The total pass percentage in the SLC results is 41.15 in Sunsari district where only 19 percent of students from community schools got through the exam this time. This is 8 percent less than last year. Out of 7,068 students from 95 community schools in the district who appeared in the exams, only three passed in distinction while 285 placed in first division, 879 in second division and 178 in third division.
Similarly, the SLC results for Panchthar district were substantially weaker this year as 82 percent of students could not pass. Students from 77 community school and eight private boarding schools had appeared in the exams. However, only 17.9 percent of a total of 4,010 students passed this year. No student from the community schools in the district could secure distinction marks. There are also 12 schools in the district from which not a single student passed the SLC this year.
Chief District Officer Kosh Hari Niraula, who is a member of the district Education Committee in Panchthar, expressed despair over the SLC results of the district. “The 82 percent failure is the failure of every party concerned. The result has put everyone to shame this year,” Niraula wrote in his Facebook status.
Likewise, the SLC results of Manag district witnessed a huge plunge. The district´s result last year was 91.25 pecent pass but this year it is 30.43 percent only. Out of 69 students appearing in the SLC in the district, only 21 have gotten through.
Similarly, the pass percentage among the 88 community schools in Makawanpur district is 36.05. Altogether 4,387 students from community schools in the district had appeared in the examination. Rastryia Higher Secondary School in Hetauda stood first in the district among community schools, with a pass percentage of 90.98. The results of two schools were nil.
Similarly,13 schools in Ilam saw no student passing while the pass percentage for three schools in the district is 3. According to the District Education Office, 12.34 percent of students from community schools in the district passed as against 57.53 percent from private schools.
