Disabled students deprived of scholarship
Khadbari: District Education Office, Sankhuwasabha, is finding it difficult to disburse scholarship to disabled children after the schools did not cooperate with the office to categorise disabled students based on their levels of disability.
The government has allocated funds to be disbursed as scholarship through the District Education Office but we are having problem distributing it, said District Education Officer Purna Bahadur Dargi. “The DEO cannot categorise disabled children as the schools concerned are not helping.”
The government has categorised disabled students into four groups. Those students who fall in ‘A’ category get Rs 17,000 per year. Similarly, those in the ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories get Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 500, respectively.
“We have already informed concerned schools to categorise disabled students but they have not done so,” said Damodar Chapagain, officer at the DEO.
