DoE decree to public schools
Bhaktapur: The Department of Education has recently directed secondary level teachers teaching in community schools to teach higher secondary level students and vise-versa. Secondary level teachers receive salaries on a par with Plus Two level teachers.
The department said secondary level teachers can teach plus two students if they have academic qualifications required for that level.
Earlier, DoE directed all schools to teach secondary level and higher secondary level teachers in the same shift.
Tek Narayan Pandey, DoE director, said the government had to make this arrangement after finding that the provision of providing plus two level salaries for secondary level teachers benefited schools and teachers in a way that is not commensurate with their contribution. He said, “The department directed authorities concerned after finding that teachers of secondary and higher secondary levels were unduly benefiting.”
He said this will not be allowed now onwards. The department came up with this provision after many secondary teachers lost interest in teaching students of Grade IX and X after teaching grade XI and XII students in the morning shift, Pandey added. If any school cannot operate classes in the same shift due to inadequate physical infrastructure, they must take a permission from the District Education Office concerned to operate secondary level and higher secondary level classes in a different shift, the department informed.
