Education Act amendment under way
Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Kishore Thapa, has disclosed that the Education Act is under amendment in order to reform the education sector. Speaking at an interaction on ‘Protection and promotion of languages for social harmony’, Secretary Thapa said English has put Nepali mother tongues under the shadow with parents and teachers pressing children to learn English at the expense of mother tongue.
Reader Damber Bir Thapa said lack of protection and promotion is pushing many languages in Nepal towards extinction. Culture expert Rajya Shree Shrestha stressed the need to promoting national languages. At the programme that had National Federation of UNESCO associations and Russian Culture Centre as the organisers, Secretary Thapa was honoured for his contribution to the education sector.
