Education, shelter for 200 orphaned kids
The Ministry of Education (MoE) will provide free education and shelter to children who lost their families in the recent earthquake.
MoE is going to teach 200 children without parents in the school run by SOS Children’s Village in Sanothimi, in the first phase.
According to Hari Lamsal, spokesperson, MoE, children below 14 years will be adjusted in the SOS children’s village in Sanothimi. He said SOS will be managing their education and accommodation.
“We are going to adjust children studying in classes below Grade IX,” he said, adding, “Students of higher grades will have to change their registration number if they are to be shifted to a different location from their hometown.” He said the ministry was going to take the responsibility of other orphans recommended by District Child Welfare Board (DCWB).
He urged all the concerned to contact DCWB for rehabilitation if any children in any district have lost their parents in the quake.
According to DoE, a total of 250 children have died in the quake. Around 170 children are from Nuwakot, 43 from Rasuwa, 25 from Kavre, nine from Dhading and three from Ramechhap.
Similarly, 32 teachers have died. Twelve teachers are from Sindhupalchowk, 10 from Nuwakot, five from Dhading, four from Gorkha and one from Rasuwa.
