Educational strike shuts academic institutions
Kathmandu: Public and private schools in Kathmandu Valley remained closed on Friday at the call of Nepal Educational Republic Forum.
The Forum announced educational strike to press for its demands. “The Education Ministry was repeatedly requested to fulfill the demands, but it didn’t budge an inch. Therefore, the strike was announced to draw its attention,” said Forum’s Treasurer Dinesh Thapa.
The one-day closure affected hundreds of thousands of students as classes could not take place due to the strike. The Forum has been demanding that the temporary teachers be made permanent, teachers of institutional schools be provided salary and allowance on par with their counterparts in community schools, appointment letters be strictly enforces, the policy that categories schools under the Company Act be scrapped and vacant posts of teachers be immediately fulfilled.
Earlier, the Forum had shut down schools of Kathmandu Valley on June 13 to press for its demands.
