Far-West Uni officials resign en masse
Mahendranagar: Office bearers of the Far-Western University (FWU) including Vice-Chancellor resigned en masse on Wednesday.
Citing lack of proper work environment at the Mahendranagar-based varsity, they tendered their resignation to ex officio Chancellor and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jayaraj Awasthi, Registrar Prof Dr Hemraj Panta, deans of four different faculties -- Prof Dr Narad Awasthi, Dr Tekraj Panta, Bharati Joshi and Dr Bhawani Chand Thakuri -- and Examination Controller Kumar Thapa put in papers, to be effective from tomorrow.
In their resignation, they stated that they could not make a conducive environment to run the FWU smoothly despite intensive efforts.
“We have resigned en masse after the work environment was destroyed at the university with frequent strikes and padlocking,” read a press statement issued by them.
Vice-Chancellor Awasthi told THT that they did not feel it morally appropriate to stick to the posts if they could not solve the existing problems.
Of late, the FWU has been unable to publish the results of entrance examinations of Engineering, call tender for construction of university buildings and call applications for vacant posts.
Three student unions have padlocked the university and affiliate Siddhanath Multiple Campus from February 6 demanding resignation of the campus chief. Likewise, the unions also had protested recent appointment of two lecturers.
