The Department of Education has directed all the schools to cancel School Leaving Certificate send-up exams scheduled for the third week of January. Openly challenging the existing legal provision, both private and public schools in the Valley have published exam schedules starting January 23 for their tenth graders.

Though Education Regulations forbids exams to screen candidates, schools have been using the tool to pick excellent students for good SLC results that they use to attract students. According to the regulations, students with at least 70 percent attendence cannot be barred from SLC exams.
