Four-year BSc course in TU this session
Tribhuvan University (TU) will be launching the four-year Bachelors’ of Science (BSc) course from the new academic session beginning August/September.
Currently, TU runs three-year bachelor programmes in all faculties. It had envisaged the four-year Bachelor programme to provide international standard education to students at a reasonable price.
Suman Lal Shrestha, acting dean, Institute of Science and Technology (IoST) said the four-year BSc programme would be launched in the first phase. Shrestha said, “We have already prepared around 80 per cent curriculum for the first year.”
He said they would complete the first year course this year and the curriculum of the second, third and forth year in the coming days.
“The earlier three-year B Sc was a 1,400 full marks course while the four-year BSc will have 1,600 full marks from the new academic session,” he added.
He further said, “In the first phase, we will launch the four-year BSc programme and gradually launch four-year courses in Humanities and Social Sciences, Management and other faculties.
Earlier, IoST had plans to let students choose only one subject in the B Sc and Master levels . But later, the Office of Vice Chancellor asked IoST to let students choose two subjects among many subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and others.
“Since the VC office asked us to let students study two subjects in Bachelors’ level and one of the two subjects at the Masters level, we were not able to launch this course in the past,” he said adding, “Otherwise, we would have already launched the four-year B Sc from the last academic session.”
