Govt directs Delhi Public School to resume classes
Dharan: Area Administration Office Dharan today directed Delhi Public Higher Secondary School to run classes.
Area Administration Office Chief Pashupati Khatiwada today went to the school and directed the authorities there to run classes smoothly.
Teachers and staff of the school had padlocked the school since yesterday putting forth a number of demands. They had also accused school authorities of exploiting them.
It has been learnt that the Home Ministry had directed to operate the school as the Indian Embassy took the issue to the ministry after The Himalayan Times ran a story in yesterday’s edition on the agitation at the school.
Agitating teacher Mani Kumar Rai, however, said the school would not open unless their demands were met. Rai charged the school was exploiting them though it charged exorbitant fees from parents.
Yubraj Limbu, another teacher, complained that the school administration treaed Nepali teachers and staff as slaves. Teachers and staff have padlocked Principal Aupal Sagar’s office, account section and the Vice Principal’s office. They have also halted regular classes from today. The agitators have put forth various demands including salary and allowance for Nepali teachers on par with Indian teachers, provident fund and permanent status for those who have worked for several years.
