Grade 12 English partial exam cancelled
The Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) has cancelled the English exam of Grade 12 under the partial category after the question paper was leaked on Tuesday.
The question paper for the exam scheduled for May 6 was leaked at the Jay Bageshwori School Centre in Nepalgunj, Banke. Though the Compulsory English exam was to be held on Tuesday, the papers for partial English were distributed to the examinees. The school administration knew about its mistake only after the students complained that they were given the wrong test.
According to HSEB Member-secretary Bhim Lal Gurung, the mistake came to light 15 minutes after the exam began. The papers were reclaimed and the right ones given to students after 30 minutes. Plus Two exams begin at 8 am across the country. The District Examination Coordination Committee has suspended Exam Superintendent Balaram Yadav and Observer Pradeep Pokhrel. Cancelling the exam centre, the committee has recommended the HSEB Examination Board for the further action.
“It’s an extreme case of negligence,” said Gurung, adding, the examinees will be accommodated in a nearby centre for other exams. The Board has decided to file a writ in the District Court seeking compensation for the loss caused by the cancellation. About Rs 7 million is necessary for the examination of one subject.
Every pack of question papers has clear information about the exam date while the exam centre gets the paper from the nearby police station on the very day of the exam. The police station chief checks every detail before handing the pack to the exam authorities.
“The police station is to blame too,” said Gurung, adding no exam centre will be allocated in the school in future. Grade 12 examinations began nationwide on Tuesday.
