Guardians seek cent per cent pass rate in exams
Guardians in Bhaktapur today demanded that the government be ‘flexible enough’ to ensure that all examinees sitting for chance exams of School Leaving Certificate make it through.
Around 70,000 students are sitting for the chance exams to be held from August 4 till August 11. The pass percentage has been dwindling over the past four years, hitting the lowest this year. Only 41.57 per cent students passed the SLC exams this year against the last year’s 47.16 per cent. The pass percentage decreased to 55.50 per cent in 2010 from 64.31 per cent a year earlier.
Out of the 511,165 examinees, who appeared in this year’s SLC exams, only 176,253 students had cleared the exams.
Issuing a press statement here today, president of the Nepal National Guardians’ Association (Bhaktapur), Navaraj Kafle, said it was the responsibility of the government to make sure that students appearing in chance exams pass the same. He also suggested to the examinees to study hard to perform well in the exams.
The statement read that there are various factors that determine a student’s performance in the exams, such as students’ learning capacity, the environment at home, teachers’ capabilities, environment at the exam hall, answer sheet marking system, so blaming students alone for poor results is not fair.
