Irregularities on third day of SLC exams
RAUTAHAT/ PANCHTHAR: Irregularities marked the third day of School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations today as scores of students, teachers and invigilators, who were acting against the exam code of conduct, were caught at various examination centres.
In Rautahat, 30 examinees using unfair means during the examination were expelled from different exam centres today. Twelve students were expelled from Yamunamai Higher Secondary School exam centre in Jhunkhuwa; eight from an exam centre in Khesarhiya, five from Juddha Higher Secondary School exam centre in Gaur, and four from an exam centre in Gaur. Their examination was cancelled.
According to district education officer Laxmi Prasad Bhattarai, Birendra Jha, the superintendent at Saraswoti Higher Secondary School exam centre in Malahi Tole was relieved of his responsibilities after he was found acting against the exam code of conduct.
Elsewhere, in Simara Bhawanipur, police detained invigilator Birendra Chaudhary for helping students cheat. He has been detained in Chandranigahapur. Likewise, two guardians were arrested from the exam centre in Jhunkhuwa after they manhandled policemen standing guard at the exam centre.
Likewise, in the eastern hilly district of Panchthar, three invigilators, a policeman and one teacher faced the music for helping students use unfair means during the examination at different places.
Police constable Chhatra Bahadur Mukhiya and teacher Ritukanta Khanal were arrested after they were caught helping students cheat at Jalsingh Secondary School exam centre in Pouwasartap. Likewise, invigilators Urmila Rai and Kashiram Phuyal of the same exam centre have been relieved of their duties after they were found to have leaked the question paper. Yet another invigilator Durga Subedi faced action for acting against the exam code at Ganesh HSS exam centre in Nangi.
In Sindhuli, security personnel themselves were found in the wrong for leaking question papers at Kamala HSS exam centre.
While locals complained of huge irregularities, Sindhuli district education officer Chandra Prasad Luintel pledged to take action against superintendents where irregularities have been reported.
Examinees taken ill
KHOTANG: As many as 18 students, who were sitting for the SLC exam in Badahare, Khotang, were taken ill on Sunday. According to Mani Kumar Giri, superintendent of Laxmi Higher Secondary School Exam Centre, the students experienced nausea, muscle cramps, headache and high body temperature before they fell ill. “Three students showed such symptoms at first and slowly the others followed,” said Giri. Thirteen students from Damli Secondary School in Dikuwa and five from Chyasimtar Secondary School in Chyasimtar were treated. According to Pesal Acharya, a source person, helpers were allowed to take exams for those who were seriously ill. Assistant Heath Worker Shiva Narayan Shah had gone to the students’ residence to treat them. “Most of them have up to 104 degree fever,” said Shah, adding, he is yet to diagnose the ailment.
Girl sits for test minutes after delivery
BAJURA: An SLC examinee on Sunday sat for her examination minutes after she had given birth, in Bajura. Sixteen-year-old Kalpana Budha of Jargaun in Kailashmandau VDC, had given birth to a son on the way to Pashupati Higher Secondary School exam centre in Brahmatola, 15 minutes before the examination started. After she had delivered the baby, her kin carried her to the exam centre where she appeared for the exam. She sat through the entire duration of the examination. “As her condition after childbirth was normal, we let her take the exam,”said invigilator Tula Thapa, adding that the examinee from Badimalika Secondary School had sat through the entire examination.
