Kanchanpur tense as students clash with cops
Kanchanpur: Tension ran high in the Kanchanpur bazaar area after students clashed with the security personnel demanding budget for the proposed Far-Western University from the government on Tuesday. Around half a dozen students were injured in the clash.
Different students organisations have taken to the streets to press the government to meet their demands since last few weeks.
Police lathi-charged and lobbed five shells of tear gas to disperse the protestors after some of students pelted stones at them when a corner assembly held near the Kanchanpur District Administration Office was concluded.
A large number of police personnel have been deployed around the town on Tuesday afternoon, where the market has remained close.
