Kaski school receives foreign aid
Pokhara: The Suklagandaki Higher Secondary School at Ghachowk in Kaski district now has a school building and the infrastructure it needs, thanks to foreign aid that has poured in the school.
Unlike earlier when it lacked a building and other infrastructure, the school now boasts of a six-room structure, computers, a library and a science laboratory.
“With the school all set to offer computer courses, we no longer have to go to Pokhara for the computer classes,” said a class XII student Amritjyu Thakuri.
The school plans to impart computer education to students from classes VIII to XII.
The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 4 million donated by the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission of the British Isles.
The commission has also donated another Rs 3 million that is being used to purchase computers, run the library and the laboratory and pay two plus-two lecturers for two years.
“The donation has been of great help to us at a time when the school is struggling to survive,” said Principal Maheshwor Poudel.
Former lieutenant colonel of the British Army, Frank Falle, said Rs 500,000 to Rs 700,000 had been asked in aid in the beginning.
“However, we were able to collect more and helped the school. We are ready to provide additional aid to the school if need be,” Falle said as he inaugurated the school building here on Tuesday.
